Why We Love Umbrosa
Umbrosa is a privately-owned company from Belgium that focuses entirely on parasols and outdoor umbrellas. They have products for every style (traditional, architectural, and fully modern) with a range of opening mechanisms, bases, and fabric options.
The reason we brought them in alongside Ethimo is simple: La Jolla is one of the best outdoor living cities in the world, and if you’re investing in a proper outdoor space, the shade solution matters as much as the furniture underneath it. A cheap umbrella from a big box store undermines everything else.
Umbrosa designs their shade products the way we think about everything, with attention to engineering, materials, and aesthetics. Their fabric selection is broad, so you can match the color to your cushions, your architecture, or whatever direction the project is going. Their bases offer real options such as wheels for mobility, storage integration, different weights and profiles depending on the installation.
We run their videos on loop on the TV in our showroom because the folding mechanisms are genuinely impressive. Once you see how they work, you understand what you’re paying for.
Products We Love Right Now
Versa PX
A cantilever umbrella where all the mechanism is at the top. Traditional umbrellas put the spokes on the underside — which is exactly where you’re sitting. Umbrosa flipped it. The spokes are on top, out of sight. From below, all you see is a clean, flat canopy. Simple change, significant result.
Icarus
The most architectural piece in their range. The Icarus looks like a leaf cantilevering overhead, and when you close it, it folds down into almost a single stick-like form. Compact, elegant, and very distinctive. Can be angled to follow the sun.
