There’s a version of 3D printing that feels cold and industrial. Then there’s Tramediterra by Antoniolupi.
Designed by Gumdesign, Tramediterra is a stoneware sink built layer by layer through a 3D printing process. But the result doesn’t look like something that came out of a machine. It looks like something that came out of the earth. Each layer of stoneware sits next to the next in a consistent, visible line. Not hidden. Not smoothed away. Present, intentional, and quietly beautiful.
The lines aren’t decoration added on top of the form. They are the form. The construction method and the aesthetic are the same thing. That’s a harder thing to pull off than it sounds, and it’s exactly what makes this piece worth paying attention to.
It’s been described as a mineral embroidery, which is accurate. Up close, the texture reads almost like topographic lines on a map, or terraced land seen from above. There’s a handmade quality to it despite the technology behind it, and that tension is the whole point.
If you’re putting together a bathroom that goes beyond the expected, this sink is the kind of piece that does the talking.
